Morphing techniques
Morphing techniques
Aim: Practice all the Morphing techniques to change or modify the design using ANSA.
Procedure:
The meshing is done by following steps
1. Import Hood.stp in to the ANSA
2. CAD Geometry clean up and topology
3. Morphing
1. Import Bottle cap.IGS in to the ANSA: Import the given Bottle cap.IGS in to the ANSA Shown in the fig.1.1. Make orientation of all visual faces and change the element length on perimeter to 1 in both perimeters and macros (MESH>Perimeters>Length).
Fig.1.1: Imported File
2. CAD Geometry clean up and topology: In this step the given model undergo topo and geometry check (Tools>Checks>Geometry) where ANSA check for any geometrical errors such as collapsed faces, cracks, single con, triple con etc. those errors are shown in fig. 2.1.
Geometrical errors are cleared by using release triple cons and topo, deleting the overlapped faces and creating new faces. Here all geometrical errors auto fixed. Fig.2.2 shows the fixed all Geometrical errors.
Fig.2.1: Geometry Errors
Fig.2.2: Geometry Clean
3. Morphing: Morphing is the process where we can reshape or modify the both FE or cad geometry directly in the design change process with or without numerical data.
Following stepsTo creat Morphing box
1. Click on Ortho MORPH>Boxes>New>Ortho The New Morph window appears.
2. Select required area from FE or Nodes or Geometry and box type is ortho
3. Select required goemetry which is to be reshape and middle click on mouse to confirm shown in the fig.3.1. We can see the Morph box in green color.
Fig.3.1: Morphing box
Reshape: Reshape can be done by so many methods. some of the following methods to change shape.
1. Move: This function modifies the shape of Morphing Boxes, by moving selected Control Points in various ways. Control Points can be moved, according to the global or a local coordinate system. Simultaneously, Morphing modifications are achieved, if the relative flag in the Options List window is activated. shown in fig 3.2.
While moving we can use move free, translate, rotate etc. MORPH>Box Morphing>move
We can create locol co-ordinates by right click before selecting control point.
Fig.3.2: Move
2.Fit: This function modifies Morphing Boxes by fitting chains of Morphing Box Edges on respective chains of target 3D-Curves. Simultaneously, Morphing modifications are achieved, if the relative Option flag is activated. MORPH>Box Morphing>Fit
Here we have two options that is fit to edge and fit to surface show in the fig 3.3
to do fit optin select fit to edge or surface, select morph edge>middle click>slect surface or edge>confirm.
Fig.3.3: Move
3. Offset: This function modifies Morphing Boxes by offsetting selected Morphing Faces.
1. Activate the Offset function.
2. Select one or more Morphing faces by picking the relative Hatches.
3. Confirm selections with middle mouse button.
4. The Parametric movement window appears.
5. Define the offset value numerically.
6. A preview of the modification is available shown int fig3.4
Fig.3.4: Offset
Fig.3.5 shows the total morphing done by using various methods
Fig.3.4: Overall Morphing.
In Morphing
1. We can split morphing box using split MORPH>Boxes>Split This function splits the selected Boxes into smaller. The created Boxes are connected to each other.
2. We can add or remove control point by insert MORPH>Control Points>Insert This function defines one or more Control Points on Morphing Edges, at the selected position.
Learning Outcome:
- Learnt basic user inter face of ANSA for Morphing .
- Learnt Basic concept on shape changes on FE or CAD Geometry.
Conclusion
Morphing is done successfully for Practice all the Morphing techniques to change or modify the design using various technics in ANSA.
