Week 7 Challenge

Aim:-To calculate the water current pressure acting on the pier of the bridge.

Explanation:- As we see bridges that are constructed across the river or sea, their piers are subjected to water pressure. During high tides in the sea and floods in rivers, this pressure of the water may also lead to overturning the bridge. Therefore calculation of the water pressure is most important in order to make the bridge stable.

Calculations:-

Span if the bridge:- 45m

Mean sea velocity:- 3m/s

Maximum velocity can be calculated as = Vmax= √2*Vmean=√2*3

Vmax=4.24m/s

Water current= 52*k*Vmax^2=52*0.66*4.24*4.24

Water current=617 kN/m^2
