Challenge

Week 6-Meshing of Hood Challenge

Objective:

To understand the various techniques that can be used to improve the mesh quality.

Procedure :

1- Importing the geometry

2- Deleting any solids while retriving the surfaces . using delete solids option .

3- we generate the mid surfaces seperately

4- required toggles are made for each individually and generating 4 mid surfaces that are seperate and can be modified and meshed seperately

5- The auto cleanup edge edit and quick edit are used to prepare the surfaces as required .

6- the hood and frame can be cut in half, this will reduce the time required and complexity of the whole meshing process . as the surfaces are symmetric

7- all un-necessary and extra lines and points are removed .

8- the replace points is used to make all required modifications and adjust the smaller imperfections that create extra nodes and can possibly elminate the creation of bad elements.

9- We then perform checks to ensure that there are no extra or deformed edges before going for the mesh generation

10- The auto mesh generation is used in mixed mode as mendioned in the problem . This is mainly to do whith analysis type and how these element types and nodes transmit the load data aning them .

11- it is always preffered to have a smooth quade mesh but due to the curves in components , rotating quades or tria elements are used .

12- For the given conditions Tri elements are more preffered . mesh edit options are used to align elements with lines and change the preferences in cleanup tool of elements

13- After numerous iteration of performing the mesh cleanup and quality indexing , the rebuild and smooth options are used to improve the quality further.

14- The reflect option is used and the elements are duplicated and after reflecting the elemsnts , the elements connections need to be checked and connected using the edhe and the equivalance options .

15- The color and graphical options can be set accordingly .

Errors and problems encountered :

1- excessive nodes being generated causing multiple bad elements

2- surface splits and removing bad surfaces

3- equivalance checks and connecting the elements correctly

4- making element modufications using deleate elements are regenerating using the 2D elements .
