Week- 5 - Solid meshing

AIM:

To check for the geometrical errors and mesh the Surfaces with the given 2D element Quality criteria. And, to use tetra element to mesh the volume defined.

CAD MODEL:

QUALITY CRITERIA:

PROCEDURE:

  • After Importing the CAD Model for the rearview mirror assembly, we need to check for any geometry errors such as needle face and triple cons. We need to fix those issue and recheck it.

  • Hence we are doing 3D Mesh modeling with tetra mesh modeling we need to create 2d tria and ortho tria on the surfaces given.
  • After that, we need to create a volume from that surface. And, after which we can create tetra mesh by tetra rapid or tetra fem tool.
  1. Geometry Cleanup:
  • Initially, we need to perform the same procedure as we perform for the 2d meshing process. Where the first step is to clean geometry.
  • Under which we need to modify, and suppress feature and construction lines to avoid element failing.
  • The model also consists of fillets that we need to remove if they lie under minimum length size value.
  • To do so we need to use dach tool to delete the fillet. After which we need to check again for geometry.

  • In the end, we need to run macro and perimeter to assign uniform node points.
  1. 2D Meshing:
  • For 3D meshing initially, we need to mesh 2d tria elements over the macros (surfaces). It is recommended to mesh tria over the flat surfaces and mesh ortho tria to the surfaces which are curvature.

  • While respecting the given quality criteria we meshed all the shells with the required 2D tria mesh. Undermentioned quality criteria.

  1. 3D Tetra Meshing:
  • Once we get all the tria meshed surfaces we need to create a volume from it.
  • Initially, we need to create volume from the given shell surfaces.
  • After this, we use TetraFEM or TetraRapid tool to create the complete mesh for the volume.
  • After creating the complete mesh we need to check it for tet-collapse. And need to rectify it by MVFree tool to translate the node of the failed element.

    LEARNING OUTCOMES:
  • Through this assignment, we learned about tetra meshing and the basics of consideration and tools need to use in tetra mesh modeling.
  • Understood the procedure of tri modeling on shell surface and creating volume through it.
  • Understood tet collapse and method to eliminate it in the model.

CONCLUSION:

  • From this assignment, we understood Tetra meshing over the model and the general guidelines which need to be followed during the process. We also learned about Geometry Cleanup procedure and about method to create Volumes through Shell.
