Week 5 Bending of iPhone
OBJECTIVE:-
- To simulate the bending of iPhone as per the given cases.
SETUP:-
Under Engineering Data some Field Variables were added and the SN Curve was defined.
PROCEDURE:-
CASE 1:-
Geometry:
Contacts:
The behaviour of the contact was set to Frictionless and Bonded for Display to Frame contact.
Joints were created under the onnections as well.
Mesh:-
The model was given the default mesh, only the contact faces was assigned with 4 mm mesh.
Boundary Conditions:-
The simulation is made to run for 8 steps with Larger Deflection kept as ON and Solver Type as Direct.
A Fixed support was assigned.
RESULTS:-
Directional Deformation (in the +ve Y direction):-
Maximum: 8 mm
Equivalence Stress (on the plate):-
Minimum: 5.5337e-7 MPa ; Maximum: 2855.4 MPa
Life:-
Safety Factor:-
CASE 2:-
Geometry:
RESULTS:-
Directional Deformation (in the +ve Y direction):-
Maximum: 7.7568 mm
Equivalence Stress (on the plate):-
Minimum: 7.5432e-7 MPa ; Maximum: 1764.4 MPa
Life:-
Safety Factor:-
CONCLUSIONS:
1. The Equivalent Stress in Case 2 is 1764.4 MPa which is much less than in CASE 1 2855.4 MPa, because in case 2 the fingers are in the center and stress in uniformly distributed.
2.The SN curve suggests Maximum portion of the phone having life more than 6 million cycles.
