Week 4 Session 5
DC-DC converters :
A DC-DC converter is which converts an unregulated DC input to a regulated DC output.
EX: If a mobile charger is required 10V or less than 10V to charge the mobile. Then,
a 230V Unregulated DC is converted to a 10V regulated DC by using a DC-DC converter.
A DC-DC converter is also called as a step-down converter.
Isolated converters are those DC-DC converters in which their input side and output side are electrically Isolated. The output polarities are not being influenced by the input polarities, Usually we use a transformer in between input side and output side.
ex: Fly back converters , Forward converters, Half bridge converters, Full bridge converters, Push pull converters.
Non-Isolated converters are Buck converters, Boosts converters, and Buck Boost converters.
Resonant converters are different family of DC-Dc converters used for high power conversion.
a) Delivering power to auxiliary loads operating at different voltages at load side.
b) Auxiliary loads , ex: Car air conditioning system, head lights, music system, dimmer etc.
c) Battery to charger station compatibility.
d) HV battery and LV battery links.
e) Accumulating different energy sources to give the desired output.
f) Voltage translator or converter.
g) Voltage regulator or controller.
h) Motor control and wireless charging.
