Week 4 Session 5
1.Explain the various applications of Power converters in an Electric vehicle. For Example what type of converter will you use for Horn which requires DC and less than 10V. Likewise come up with different applications ?
answer:-
Power converters are an essential component of electric vehicles (EVs) as they are responsible for managing the flow of electrical energy between the different components of the vehicle. Some of the key applications of power converters in EVs are:
-
Battery Charger: EVs rely on high-capacity battery packs for power, and these batteries need to be recharged regularly. Power converters are used to convert the AC power from the charging station to the DC power required by the battery.
-
Motor Controller: The electric motor in an EV requires a DC power supply to operate, but the battery provides an AC current. Power converters are used to convert the AC current from the battery to the DC current required by the motor. Additionally, the motor controller is responsible for managing the speed and torque of the motor, which requires precise control of the power supply.
- In the electric vehicle for charging purpose we have to use AC to DC power converter.
- For auxiliary battery charging we are using DC to DC buck converter.
- For horn we are using DC to DC buck converter.
- For interior and exterior led lights we are using DC to DC Buck converter
- For induction motor running we are using DC to AC power converter
- For window glass motors we are using DC to DC buck converters
- For wiper and washer we are also using DC to DC buck converters nearly 12V or 24V
