Challenge

Week 4- Challenge

Objective: To Mesh the Given component with the Size of 5mm and Create 1D elements on the component with given cross-section and DOF

Procedure:

  • import the model
  • create a new component and name it to bracket 2, this is done to transfer the mid surface of bracket 2 to this component (to prevent the mid surfaces of the components from combining )
  • create the mid surface of both the upper and lower bracket and delete the solid parts

  • now transfer component 2 to the previously created bracket 2 by going to tools---> organize --->select current component as bracket 2--->move
  • now create material steel since we need to assign some thickness to the components
  • create 2 property (one for each component)
  • assign the material and thickness to the property

  • assign the property and material to the component

  • now mesh the component

  • create three hyper beam models BOX, I, and X

  • create 3 properties for the three cross-sections required and assign them to the models created in hyperbeam

  • after meshing as per the question create a rod element and constrain translational DOF with RBE2 link

    with (a) Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

    dimension b=10 mm

    Thickness t= 0.75 mm

  • Beam element:- All DOF constrained with RBE3 link

    (b) Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

    Dimension b= 10 mm

    Dimension c= 8.5 mm

    Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

    Thickness t2= .6 mm

    Thickness t3= .6 mm

  • Bar element:- Constrain only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

    (c) Cross-section: X section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

    Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

    Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

    Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm

  • for places (d) and (f) we create RBE2 link and apply a mass of magnitude 10 to the master node
  • for part (f) we join the components with spring elements
  • final model
