Week - 4 - 2D meshing for Plastic components
PROCEDURE
STEP 1: OFFSET MID SURFACE
Commands used:
TOPO Module: Orient, Topo, Offset, Middle .,etc.
- Orient the cad model and check all faces are connected, if not try Topo to connect.
- Measure the thickness of the cad model.
- Select both sides of the faces and use middle option in TOPO module it will create faces exactly in-between the two faces. This option is also used to create middle surface for variable thickness.
Check the geometry and execute .

STEP 2: GEOMETRIC CLEANUP
Commands Used:
TOPO Module: Orient, Topo, Offset, Delete, Cut, New, Dach, Project, New face.,etc.
- After creating the middle surface check geometry by check manager option and clear all the errors one by one.
- Before Geometry cleanup:
STEP 3: ASSIGN PID & THICKNESS
- Assign the PID for all the group of faces and mention the thickness.
- Release The CONS
STEP 3: ASSIGN PID & THICKNESS
- Assign the PID for all the group of faces and mention the thickness.
For features to create the mid surfaces for one tooth , middle option is there, it is used to create a middle curve at the front face of the tooth.
Using the project option (in curve) select the line from the back side and project that line to base mid surface.
STEP 4: MESH WITH QUALITY CRITERIA
Commands Used:
MESH Module: Macros (cut, join, set PID)
Hot points (insert, delete, project)
Mesh generation (Spoy mesh, Erase)
Shell mesh (Smooth, Reconstruct)
Element (join, split, new, freeze/unfreeze)
- Before meshing create a temporary macro by using zone cut option in hole perimeters.
- Check the percentage of quad, trias and off mesh in the graphical window and finalize the model before delivery.
Outcomes are:
These are good Mesh
- No trias at free edges
- No trias touching each other
- No opposite trias are there
