Challenge

Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

Objective:

To Mesh the Given component with the Size of 5 Units and to create 1D elements on the given component with given cross-section and DOF.

Procedure:

  • At first import the given CAD model.
  • Next delete the solids in the CAD model.
  • After that use modsurface option to take mid surface from the model.
  • After taking the midsurface for each of the bracket, allign the properties and mateials for each of the bracket as, Bracket-1, Bracket-2, Property-1, Property-2, Material-1, Marterial-2.
  • After allighning the properties for the model, start meshing the model.
  • Use 2D meshing, select auto mesh and mesh the complete model.
  • Consider 1st hole as a-a, 2 nd hole as b-b, 3rd hole as c-c.
  • Using RBE2/rigid connect a-a holes, by using RBE3 connect b-b holes, by using RBE3 connect c-c holes.
  • USING MASS COMMAND ADD MASS INTO THE RBE2.
  • After that use hyper beam command to ser the hyper beams,

    a. Rod element:- Translational DOF should be Constrained with RBE2 link

    Cross-Section: BOX- Dimension a= 12 mm

    dimension b=10 mm

    Thickness t= 0.75 mm

    b. Beam element:- All DOF should be constrained with RBE3 link

    Cross-Section: I Section- Dimension a= 8 mm

    Dimension b= 10 mm

    Dimension c= 8.5 mm

    Thickness t1= 0.75 mm

    Thickness t2= .6 mm

    Thickness t3= .6 mm

    c. Bar element:- Constrain only x and y DOFs With RBE3 link

    Cross-section: X section- Dimension DIM1= 5 mm

    Thickness DIM2= 1.2 mm

    Dimension DIM3= 10 mm

    Thickness DIM4= 1.2mm.

  • After alligning these values allign/update the properties of the elements.
  • At last verify the model.

Conclusion:

The Given component is meshed with the Size of 5 Units and Createated 1D elements on the following component with given cross-section and DOF.
