Challenge

Week 4-1D Element Creation Challenge

Objective:

To create a midsurface of given sheetmetal IGES model. Meshing the midsurface of the model and develop the 1D elements of each of the holes from the given model.

Procedure:

Given Model:

Midsurface:

From the given model, I have checked the thickness of the part which is 5mm by two point distance. After that the given part had been done the midsurface. Midsurface is handy tool to mesh the sheetmetal parts with even thickess. Analysis will be easy through the midsurface option.

2D Element Mesh:

After that midsurface should be meshed with the element size of 5units. I have meshed with mixed element(Tria & Quad).

Materials:

To create a material i named that as steels. And i given the material properties as card image-MAT 1, Young's Modulus=2.1x10^5 & possion ratio=0.3

Properties:

I have created the properties for each parts like bracker-1, bracket-2, bar, beam & rods.

RBE-2 & RBE-3 Element:

RBE-2 is an element which has infinite stiffness. The element cannot move up or down or side wise. So It may also called as rigit element. I have created the rigit element on the 1st hole with olny translational dof.

RBE-3 element which can move up, down, side wise. 2nd hole has been created with RBE-3 element with all the dof. In 3rd hole RBE-3 created with only X and Y dof.

Rod, Beam & Bar:

Rod and Bar can carry on the axial load like tensile and compression. But beam can carry the axial, bending & twisting loads as well. Creating the Rod, Beam & Bar through hyperbeam in 1d. The elements were created as per given dimensions.

Final Model:

Completion of every task, I have attached here the final model and image.
