Week 3 - 2D meshing for Sheet metal

                                                                   Project Report

THE HOOD INNER PAENL MODEL

OBJECTIVE: To mesh the given model using the method of auto-generating mid-surfacing using (mid-surface>OFFSET).

PROCEDURE
Visual inspection: Firstly, it's mandatory for checking the geometry whether it has geometrical errors and before mid-surfacing or meshing.

⦁ After importing the model into the GUI change the element size of the model to 1mm. For that, there is an option (Perimeter> Length), for both perimeter and macros in the classic mesh module.
⦁ Then we should check whether there are any free edges which are shown in red colour. if so, In the topo module (Faces> TOPO). Select the whole geometry and click to see all the red lines connected with each other forming the yellow lines.

Geometry

Topo
⦁ After connecting the lines, check for geometrical errors. (Go to check > Geometry) after selecting all the error names in the list click Execute> Show results.

these are the list of errors that have come triple, single, convex, concave, mixed, collapse cons and unchecked, needle faces and crack between faces. clearing all the errors manually by using (faces>delete, cons> fill hole, faces> new).
after clearing all the errors again checked geometry to verify that all the errors are now cleared.

⦁ If there are errors correct it. then measure the geometrical thickness. Here we can see the thickness of all sides is 0.75mm.

Mid-Surfacing:
⦁ For Mid-surfacing through an auto method, there is an option in the topo module (mid-surfacing>OFFSET)
⦁ After creating a rough mid-surface .then refined some edges with the (auxilaries>fine)tool.

⦁ In the casting mid-surfacing method there is a tab appears which asks to set the value for the target element with minimum thickness in parameters, In (options) unselect the stop at geometry error.

⦁By using (Faces > Cut) discrete the surface into smaller parts to get a good mesh.

⦁ For some curve regions We should project the curve on the surface to stitch the curve with the character.

⦁ In some fillet regions we should use (Dach > divide face) sometimes dach dived won't work so we should create manually using the (curve>middle)tool it creates some violate line we should project it to the face using (cone> project) to get the middle line without losing the fillet data

Mid-Surfacing

⦁The next step is to be Setting the mesh and quality parameters and set the characteristic length as specified using the (Perimeter> Length.)
Meshing:
⦁Using the option of Mesh generation > batch mesh select the region required for meshing and create the meshes.

Mesh generation

⦁Using the Elements > Split command correct the mesh flow as required to satisfy the quality criteria and follow the thumb rules of creating the mesh flow.

Conclusion:
Thus, the model for the hood inner panel was completed with 440 tria elements, and all geometry faces have meshed
After completing the model, the mesh flow looks something like this.
