Challenge

Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

Ansa challenge – 2

In this challenge, there is a valve like object. On which we have to perform meshing.

There are multiple of patches found in the surface of the body, so we have to fill those patches.

Checks: There are multiple checks in the ansa software. So that we can check objects irregularities. There are geometry checks, on which we can check it’s geometry. Like single coons, double coons and triple coons.

Faces: Faces option is used to cover opening in the surface. ‘New’ option is used to cover patches. There are four options in the ‘New’ option.

  1. Existing Surface
  2. Planner
  3. Fitted
  4. Coons

Existing Surface: This command is used to fill the openings in any existing surface.

Planner:

Fitted: This command is used to fill the irregular holes. In entity mode fitted command is used.

Coons: Coons is used to fill the holes in a one shot.

Fill holes: Fill holes is one another command, that is used to fill the gaps inside a body surface.

Cut Section in the face mode: After all hole & openings in the surface filled. We will start checking all the lines, which is too much closer to each other lines. Then we have to cut these lines, by the cut command in the face section. By just right clicking on the line. There the deleted lines will show in the orange color line.

After cutting all the lines from the model, which is too closer to each other, and may poses some difficulties while meshing.

PID selection: For differentiate different parts in the body, we should assign some properties for the different object of the body.

  1. Column
  2. Base surface
  3. Valve head
  4. Spring
  5. Body
  6. Inlet
  7. Outlet

These are the seven different properties for the different parts of the object. We have defined different colors for the different region.

We have used different selection method for differentiate this area from the object. PID reason, this command is used to select area, which has no significance from the other body parts.

For assigning PID, first select the ‘PID’ in the draw mode. Which control the color mode of the display. And then assign the target length in the mesh mode ‘Perimeters’ -> ‘Length’ -> define perimeters and macros for the selected area of the object. After defining ‘Perimeters’ then we need to define the ‘Mesh Parameters’. In ‘Mesh parameters’ change the ‘Mesh parameter’ orientation in the general mode. And define the target length, and then minimum & maximum target length should be less & more from the target length. After defining mesh parameters define the quality criteria of the mesh for defining minimum & maximum mesh length. And then mesh it with using ‘Spot mesh’ in the mesh generation column. ‘Spot mesh’ is used for meshing only a selected space.

In this challenge, we have defined 3 target lengths. 1mm, 3mm, & 5mm. While meshing with different mesh lengths it was seen that, while meshing with 1mm target length, mesh quality is looking good. Object is looking smoother.
