Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve
Aim/Objective :- To Perform topological cleanup & deploy mesh on the given model with a target mesh length of 1 mm,3 mm & 5 mm by selecting element type as "Triac".
Procedure:-
A) Import CAD Model
Step 1 :- At top left corner in toolbar Select FILE option.
Step 2 :- Select OPEN Option. Select the downloaded CAD Model from the respective folder.
Step 3 :- Model will be imported in ANSA.
B) Checking Errors for Topological Clean-Up (Cleanning Errors)
Step 1 :- Select "CHECKS" Option and go to geometry checks
Step 2 :- Select the necessary parameters which needs to be checked and cleaned up. Execute the checks and the needful errors will be visible for clean up.
Step 3 :- Once you click on the respective error it will be shown in model. If we just need to see erros in entire model select the respective errors and press CNTRL + SHIFT buttons.
C) Patching/Closing the Open Surfaces for Topological clean up.
Step 1 :- Click New option at right hand in the TOPO mode tools section.
Step 2 :- Select Existing Surface/Fitted/COONS tools to patch or close the open surfaces.
Step 3 :- After selecting the respective option select the respective cons of the open surface.
Step 4 :- Once selection of cons are done - Middle click - Select the face on which the open surface needs to be closed or just check the preview of the upcoming closing surface.
Step 5 :- Once all surface are closed, just check again in wire frame mode and by pressing CNTRL + SHIFT buttons and ensure if all open surfaces are closed.
Also ensure if all errors are resolved in checks section.
D) Eliminate/Delete the samll surface which are samller than Target Mesh Length.
Step 1 :- Select Cut option under faces section in the TOPO mode tools section.
Step 2 :- Pan the cursor to the cons of the surfaces which needs to deleted and right click on the same con. Repeat the same till all small surfaces are deleted.
E) Creating PID for the surfaces
Step 1 :- Click on Properties option.
Step 2 :- Right click in the small pop up box.
Step 3 :- Select new option - Click PShell and new PID will be created. Also PID colour can also be changed by double left clicking on the colour besides PID created.
F) Assigning PID to visible and outer parts/surface of Model.
Step 1 :- Right click on the PID to be assigned.
Step 2 :- Select apply option.
Step 3 :- Select the cross section of the part where PID needs to be assigned.
G) Assigning PID to inner parts/surface of Model.
Step 1 :- Hide the parts/surfaces where PID is assigned by using visibility tools and isolate the parts where PID needs to be assigned.
Note :- Entity mode or PID mode can be used while doing the above.
Step 2 :- Assign PID TO THE UN ASSIGNED/Inner REGIONS OF BODY as explained in the F)Assigning PID to visible and outer parts/surface of Model step.
H) Check if all PID's are assigned to all their respective surface/components.
I) Once the above is ensured. Delete the default PID assigned to parental geometry. To delete the same follow below steps.
Step 1 :- Select the properties section and right click on the default PID.
Step 2 :- Select the delete option to delete the default PID.
Note :-If the Default PID iss not deleted then follow the below procedure.
Step 1 :-Use the undelete option and select the surface which needs to be retrived by simply left clicking on it. If the respective cross edge becomes dark green it signifies that selection is done.
Step 2 :- Just middle click and the required surface will be retrived with the default PID. It will appear like a mixed colour PID.
Step 3 :- Once the selected surfaces are retrived its mandatory to connect the corresponding surfaces by selecting the topo option in the topo mode tools section. After selecting the topo option box select the corresponding the surface and middle click accordingly.
Step 4 :- After retriving the default PID surface, delete the same by right clicking on the default PID region in the properties section and select the delete option and delete the same.
J) Once all PID's are created, start meshing. Follow the below steps for meshing
Step 1 :- Assign target length as 5 mm in match parameter quality criteria and accordingly set minimum and maximum length
Step 2 :- Assign target length as 5 mm in perimeters and macros as done in previous challenge.
Step 3 :- Use spot mesh or visible option to mesh the required surface.
K) Once all outer surfaces are meshed, then mesh the inner surfaces of the model as follows
Step 1 :- Hide or disable the outer meshed parts/surfaces and repeat the meshing process for the inner surfaces accordingly.
Note :- If specific component size is less than the target length proper meshing will be difficult to achieve hence for proper meshing below procedure needs to be followed.
Step 1 :- Isolate the respective component and select target mesh length less than the component size in Mesh parameters, quality criteria, perimeters and macros and repeat the same meshing procedure as done before.
Once all assigned PID surfaces are meshed just the check in the checks section if any surface is left unmeshed or not?
Repeat the above procedure for meshing the model agian with 3mm and 1mm target mesh length.
