Week 2 Challenge : Surface meshing on a Pressure valve

CHALLENGE-1

1.what is CFD(computational fluid dynamics)?

  • cfd is a branch of fluid mechanics that uses numerical analysis and structure to analyze and solve problems that involve fluid flows.
  • cfd is the science of predicting fluid flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions and related phenomena by solving the mathematical equations which govern processes.

2.why we Need CFD(computational fluid dynamics) ?

  • cfd solves time and money not just by increasing analysis throughtout but also by improving the engineer's insight into fluid flow problem.
  • by helping Engineers filter out bad designs when there are few(if any) cost consequences.
  • it can help you avoid some of the most common problems durning product development that lead to failure.
  • with the increases the product complexity.
  • cfd analyzes the flow and interactions of fluids,so it includes both liquids and gases and can analyzes natural phenomena such as airflow.

3.Explain five applications of cfd(computational fluid dynamics) in Detail ?

cfd can be applied to different industries for different Analytical capabilites.some of prime industries where cfd simulation is frequently used are:

  1. CFD simulation for preventing cavitation - the biggest issue? it's very difficult to detect cavitation-caused damage to a component durning physical stress testing because the damage is gradual, and shows no obivous effect untill it reaches a critical threshold, cavitation simulation through CFD,however, can help engineers set tiny threshold that would be difficult to measure in the physical world.
  2. CFD simulation for Laminar and Turbulent flow - Turbulence is the sudden vilolet movement of air, water or other liquids.it is one of the most disastrous and unpredictable weather phenomena faced by piots,CFD simulations use turbulence models to predict the effect of turbulence on a CAD Engineered Design.
  3. Heating,Air conditioning and Ventilation(HVAC)Applications of CFD simulation - As such, many HVAC equipment manufacturers have turned to CFD simulation to speed up prototyping and validating new designs.CFD simulation allows engineers to analyze the potential performance of their products.
  4. simulating Aerodynamics with CFD - as automobile designers, aerospace engineers and sports equipment manufacturers all make use simulation software to reduce the dragand friction of air while improving effieciency.
  5. pipe and valve simulation with CFD - CFD simulation engineers can model the performance of an entire system of pipe or isolate a single component(like a valve)to decrease the likelihood of failure.

CHALLENGE-2

1.Explain About ANSA ?

  • Automatic net generation for structural Analysis.
  • ANSA is a advanced CAE Pre-processing tool for finite Element Analysis.
  • A properly cleaned-up geometery is key pre-requisite for a well-defiened mesh model.
  • Application include the generation of models for crash,Durability,NVH,CFD, and other research areas.

2.What is Pre-Processing ?

  • it is a computer-aided engineering tool for finite element analysis and cfd analysis widely used in the automative industry,it is developed by BETA CAE Systems.
  • it maintains the association between CAD Geometry and FE mesh.

3.Five other Tools used for pre-processing ?

  • it has a main tools are Topology,Geometry cleanup, meshing, volumetric mesh and Errors rectifying.
  • pre-processing decks for NASTRAN,ABAQUS,ANSYS,LS-DYNA,PAM-CRASH and RADIOSS.
  • cross-sectional analysis tool.
  • kinetics tool.
  • fuel tank analysis tool.
  • surface and volume mesh morphing.

Main Theme :

it presents in detail all the steps taken to read a CAD file of a part , perform cleanup ,as well as some geometry simlication in order to create a good Quality shell mesh .

  1. Cleanup Geometry , close gaps , modify or create new faces etc..
  2. improve the mesh by manually optimizing the shape of the macro areas.
  3. De-featuring removing details such as small holes and fillets.
