Week 11 Challenge
Aim:- To analysis the given RC bridge for the temperature load as pe IS 875 Part V.
Explaination:- Thermal stress can play a vital role in creating distress in structures. Continious expansion and contraction of material used in construction may leads to thermal crack and ultimately structures will fail. Therefore the maximum and mininmum temperature for the give site hase to be known using IS 875 Part V and the effect of stresses on the structure has to be analysied manually or by using software and than the desingning of bridges shall be done.
Calculation:-
Span:- 9m
Box Girder:- 1500*1500mm Web thickness:- 300mm
Diameter of pier:- 2.5m
Widfth of top deck slab= 7m
Width of pier cap= 6m
Solution:- Maximum Temperature= 47.5 degree celcieus and minimum temperature:- -0.4 degree celcieus (as per IRC 6-2017 Annex F)
Effective temperature difference= {(47.8-(-0.4))/2}+10 = 34.1 degree celcieus
Stress due to temperature = α*δT*E = 11.27*10^-6*31.4*5000*(40)^1/2 = 11.19kN/m^2
Maximum permissible stress =2/3*0.7*√Fck = 2/3*0.7*√40 =2.95 kN/m^2
Hence maximum stress is restricted to 3kN/m^2
