Week 11 Car Crash simulation

Aim:- To perform car crash analysis in Explicit Dynamics

Objective:-

  • perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body( 0.3mm , 0.5mm, 0.6mm )

Pre-Processing:-

Geometry:-

Material Selection:-

Structural Steel for wall

Stainless steel NL for car body

Symmetry:-

Meshing:-

Patch Confirming Method:-

All triangles Method:-

Face sizing:-

Mesh:-

Analysis settings:-

Fixed support:-

Displacement:-

Solver Output:-

Case 1:- Body thickness is 0.3mm

Total Deformation:-

Equivalent Stress:-

Case 2:- Body thickness is 0.5mm

Total Deformation:-

Equivalent Stress:-

Case 3:- Body thickness is 0.6mm

Total Deformation:-

Equivalent Stress:-

Results:-

Conclusion:-

  • The increcases in thickness results decrease in ductile nature followed by increase in hardness of body.
  • With increase in thickness value the total deformation decreases slightly.
  • Same as with Equivalent Stress increase in thickness results in decrease in stress values.
