Challenge

Week 11 Car Crash simulation

OBJECTIVE:-

  • To perform a parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body.

Geometry:

Parametric was switched on for the Thickness of the Car Body, with first value as 0.3 mm.

Materials:

Car Body has been assigned with Stainless Steel NL and the Wall is assigned with the default as Structural Steel.

Connections:

In Explicit Analysis, the model mainly depends mainly on Body Interactions.

Symmetry:

Symmetry regions are selected for the Wall and the Car Body.

Mesh:

Tetrahedron is used in case of Wall. For surface not in contact has been given a mesh size of 175 mm. and for the rest of the body 50 mm is assigned.

Analysis Settings:

End time = 1e-003 s

Fixed support:

Displacement:

Displacement of 500 mm was assigned to the wall.

Solutions:

For Thickness = 0.3 mm

Total deformation:

Min. value = 0 mm , Max. value = 1047.3 mm

Equivalent stress:

Min. value = 0 MPa , Max. value = 20424 MPa

CONCLUSIONS:-

Parametric Study:-

From above table, we can observe that with increase in thickness the Equivalent Stress values is getting decreased.
