Week 11 Car Crash simulation
CAR CRASH SIMULATION
Objective:- Perform a parametric study using three different values of thickness for the Car Body. And analyze the Total Deformation and Equivalent Stress acting on the model.
I am using 0.3, 0.5 & 0.8mm thickness for the Car body. And I am selecting Structural Steel Material for Wall and Stainless Steel NL Material for Car Body.
First to import the given model in ANSYS Workbench and then select the materials for the wall and the car body.
- Image of the model given below:
- Properties of material for wall and for Car body given below:
- Detail of Symmetry Region given below:
- Detail of Meshing given below:
- Detail of Analysis Setting given below:
- Detail of Fixed Support given below:
- Detail of Displacement Load given below:
NOW COME TO RESULTS
- RESULTS FOR THICKNESS 0.3 mm FOR THE CAR BODY.
EQUIVALENT STRESS(MPa) TOTAL DEFORMATION(mm)
MAXIMUM 3205.31 1032.75
MINIMUM 0 0
AVERAGE 240.02 160.10
- Image of Graph and model for Equivalent stress given below:
- Image of Graph and model for Total Deformation given below:
- RESULTS FOR THICKNESS 0.5 mm FOR THE CAR BODY.
EQUIVALENT STRESS(MPa) TOTAL DEFORMATION(mm)
MAXIMUM 3252.42 1029.14
MINIMUM 0 0
AVERAGE 254.64 159.91
- RESULTS FOR THICKNESS 0.8 mm FOR THE CAR BODY.
EQUIVALENT STRESS(MPa) TOTAL DEFORMATION(mm)
MAXIMUM 3296.10 1023.71
MINIMUM 0 0
AVERAGE 260.31 159.33
- Now come to results of Parametric study of three different values of thickness for the Car Body:
- CONCLUSION:
AS WE SEE IN THE RESULTS WHEN WE INCREASE THE THICKNESS OF THE CAR BODY, THE MAXIMUM EQUIVALENT STRESS INCREASES AND MAXIMUM TOTAL DEFORMATION DECREASES FOR THE SAME MATERIAL.
And I also attached the Ansys Workbench file, Parametric results sheet, and videos in the attachment.
