Week 11 Car Crash simulation
Objective
In this study, I have performed a car crash simulation parametric study using 3 different values of thickness for the car body which is 0.3mm,0.5mm and 0.17mm. I compared the the total deformation and Equivalent stresses results acting on the model for these three different thickness car body models.
This study is done in Ansys 2022
Procedure:
1.Geometry
- Input the model as Step format in geometry in explicit dynamics module of Ansys.

- Produce symmetry region
- Select stiffness matrix of wall rigid because i am not considering the result status for wall.
2.Material assignment
- Consider wall material property as structural steel
- Car body material property as stainless steel non linear.

3.Meshing
- Mesh method for car: triangle for surface
- Mesh method for wall: tetrahedron

4.Boundary condition
1.Fixed support

Body interaction

2.Displacement
Input the displacement of wall

5.Analysis setting :
End time: 0.001

6.Results (output): for car body thickness 0.5mm
Equivalent Stress

Total deformation:

Result for other cases at different thickness:

7.Conclusion:
Total deformation is less of maximum thickness 0.7mm car body as compare to other because due to more thickness ,it has more stiffness or resisting force.
