Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
In an automotive industry the materials which is required mostly is, the material has capability to sustain high stress and could not be deform easily under the applied force.
This two characteristics is not limited to materials only but it is also depends on object’s dimensions.
Here we have given case1 in which plate has one hole at centre. And Case2 has total 3 holes at the plate as figure shown below.

Comparison deformation and max Stress development in two case.
|
Sr. No. |
Case 1- Plate with Single hole at centre |
Case 2- Plate with 3 holes |
|
1 |
less deformation taking place compare to case 2 |
More deformation taking place at free end. |
|
2 |
It is because material density is high in the case1 |
Two hole’s Material is extracted |

Max stress- strain is noted at 6-9 o’clock position of hole. |
Max stress- strain is noted at 6-9 o’clock position of hole. But due to more no. of holes It has to face more stress. |
From the analysis point of view we have to opt for case 2 plate example.
It is because in the case 2 stress is evenly distributed in the plate compare with case 1.
Due to proper distribution of stress, deformation also likewise distributed.
stress distribution
Elastic- strain distribution
For manufacturing point of view case 1 would be selected. Because, in a given applications, both case have almost minor difference i results and its stress distribution. Additionally making of two holes at side by side will increase unnecessary production time and energy.
