Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Explanation for Point - 1
The model has been developed as per the given conditions and the simulation is carried for the both the cases.
Results are as follows (for your reference the screen shot of the simulation is attached)
Case 1 - Plate with Single Hole
Max stress developed is - 0.60 MPa
Total Deformation is - 0.00027 mm
Case 2 Plate and Hole with Additional two Small Holes
Max stress developed is - 0.58 MPa
Total Deformation is - 0.00029 mm
With the above results we can conclude that by addition of two extra holes the stress developed is reduced but correspondingly there is slight increase in the deformation in case 2.
Explanation for Point - 2
From analysis point being a design and development engineer i would like to go ahead with the case -2 design.
Reason for selecting the design is even though there is increase in slight deformation the stress developed is less for the same amount of load.
Explanation for Point - 3
Some time design in the system looks easier but when it comes to Mass Production Company looks for the time and money for the product needs to be manufactured. By studying both the cases we notice that there are no much noticeable differences in both the design simulation results. If the manufacturing product is not very critical or it is not going to be used in critical systems then we can go ahead with the case 1 design so that we can save money as well as time. If the part/product is very critical where we are not allowed to deviate from 0.1% from the design requirements the by compromising time and money we can go ahead with case 2 for the manufacturing.
