Week 1 Stress Concentration on a Plate with hole
Good afternoon Sir,
As I could not solve the two plates with holes due to error, I submit the work with what we have completed along with the error messages. Our PC was shared with your office to identify the problems but they were unable to solve the problem, from your end.
So we assume that stress developed at the minimum cross sectional area nearer to the 60 mm dia hole is maximum in both the cases. But the deformation might be more in the three holed plate than the single hole.
If we see from an analysis standpoint, Second plate with three holes may be a better option because of lesser weight at the cost of little deformation, which may be within the elastic limit.
If we see from a manufacturing standpoint, First plate with single hole will be a better option as we can save both machining time and labour cost.
Report:
Two plates one with a single hole and other is with three holes, made of structural steel were considered for stress and deformation analysis. Among them, plate with 3 holes will be a better option compared to that of a plate with single hole. The reason for this will be a reduction in structural weight with comaprable strength.
