Unsupervised Learning - Kmeans Week 11 Challenge
1.The notion of similarity or distance for categoricaldata is not as straightforward as for continuous data. The key characteristic of categorical data is that thedierent values that a categorical attribute takes arenot inherently ordered. Thus, it is not possible todirectly compare two dierent categorical values. Thesimplest way to nd similarity between two categoricalattributes is to assign a similarity of 1 if the valuesare identical and a similarity of 0 if the values arenot identical. For two multivariate categorical datapoints, the similarity between them will be directlyproportional to the number of attributes in which theymatch. This simple measure is also known as theoverlapmeasure in the literature.
