Underbody Coating
UNDER BODY COATING
AIM:
Under Body coating while you are sitting on the driving seat enjoying the smooth ride the underbody of your car is always exposed to MUDDY WATER , STONE , RUGGED , ROADS & POTHOLES. This makes it prone to wear and tear, which is often not in plain sight but could lead to serious issues. So therefore keeping this in mind underbody coating is required.
INTRODUCTION:
The under body coating provides long term protection from corrosion to car underbody. it also protect parts like internal body panel frame rails and other inner cavities that are not physically accessible but are prone to corrosion. Underbody coating is a sprayable coating which protect the under surface of the vehicle from corrosion
A protective coating composition for motor-vehicles underbodies and gravel guards characterised in that it comprises,in percentages by weight of the composition.
We are all aware of the fact that the underbody of the pervious models was made from durable metals such as steel which is easly damaged and Oxidized forming rust in lead to serious issues.
PROCEDURE:
Most undercoating is generally applied with a spray gun. A disposable spray gun will work best once the undercoating hardens it becomes very difficult to clean the gun even with a lot of thinner. A schuts disposable spray gun is the best option.
And the thickness of the coating varies for different vehicle for it plays an important roles in keeping corrosion at bay. underbody coating can come in handy especially if you live near the sea where there is too much humanity and rusting is just one seriously consider undercoating if you reside in a place where it snows in winter.
TYPES OF UNDERBODY COATING:
Different types of underbody coating are:-
1. Rubberized underbody coating
2. Wax Based Underbody coating
3. Asphalt Based Automotive Undercoating
4. Polyurethane Underbody Coating
RUBBERRIZED UNDERBODY COATING:
Rubberized undercoating is easy to apply and offers sound cushionig as well as protection from dust , moisture , and dings or dents.
Overall Rubberized Undercoating is generally the best option for protecting your vehicle undercarriage as it provides the simplest and best protective measures aganist rust and moisture.
WAX BASED UNDERBODY COATING:
A Wax based undercoating never truly harden. During application they drip or flow into seams and cracks to provide protective properties. they are usually available in a spray gun caniser or in an aerosol can and offer at least a base protection in moderately humid climates.
On the upside wax basaed undercoating puts up a big fight against moisture. it is also the most affordable option out there.
ASPHALT BASED AUTOMOTIVE UNDERCOATING:
Based suited for lorries trucks and large vehicles this provides a greater degree of protection compared to rubber based coating. For stndard vehicles any of the aforementioned types of undercoating will provide sufficiant protection.
Asphalt based undercoating generally contains a little bit of rubberized material that sets up firmly and also helps soften noise. Generally sold in five gallon container this types of under coating also needs more cure time than the other three and is not paintable making it best to use only for undercarriages.
POLYURETHANE UNDERCOATING:
The other opion on the flipside this type of car undercoating generally requires a little bit more surface prep work before applying sanding and applying an etching primer to bare metals before using are generally recommended.
This coating closes up splits and fractures on the underbody of the vehicle. it offers up good protection against corrosin and also bonds with the metal unlike in the case of asphalt based coating you can paint over the polyurethane coating.

ADVANTAGES OF UNDERCOATING:
1.FIGHTS RUST
2.ABSORBS NOISE
3.REINFORCEMENT
4.PROLONG CAR LIFE
DISADVANTAGES OF UNDERCOATING:
1.IT IS LESS HELPFUL IF CORROSION IS ALREADY PRESENT
2.IT WORKS BEST ON NEW CARS
3.MOST VEHICLES MAKE IT FIVE YEAR BEFORE CORROSION BEGINS TO SHOW
4.AN UNDERCOATING IS NOT IMPERVIOUS TO DAMAGE
5.IT MUST BE REAPPLIED EVERY 3 TO 5 YEAR FOR THE BEST RESULTS
CONCLUSION:
Underbody coating is one of the hidden. as it protects the car from dust minor hit of small gravel minor wear and tear and rust it provides strength to the underbody. but the coating is not for liftime it removes or chipped out as time passes. in wet area the coating damages faster as compared to dry area the coating damages faster . that under coating is costly since the corrosion itself starts after few year underbody coating is not preferable to every reqiured over every few year or 1 to 2 years. the hidden factors for prolonged life of the cars. As it is protect the undercoating.
