Tool Test-2

Objective: To clean up the geometry and proceed with 3D meshing of the given component, in accordance with the specified element quality criteria avoiding the generation of any kink or dips on the surface of the component.

The given element quality criteria are as follows:

Procedure:

The component is imported into ANSA and geometry clean-up is performed.

1) By using the length option under the perimeter tab in the mesh module, the element length is changed to 3mm so that the geometry could be visualized more accurately. Topo is performed in order to stitch the faces wherever required.

In order to check for the geometrical errors, checks manager is used. The errors present in the geometry are fixed using the auto fix option and various tools available under the faces, cons and surfaces tabs.

2) Meshing:

- Before proceeding to meshing, the required element quality criteria are specified, and the average length is specified under the mesh parameters.

- To generate the mesh, spot meshing is done. Best and free mesh methods are also used in some regions.

- Ortho-tria meshing is done where the surfaces re curved and for flat surfaces tri meshing is done.

- The regions where the mesh elements were not at par with the required element quality criteria, were fixed using tools like reconstruct and reshape.

- From the checks manager, mesh quality check is run in order to fix the generated errors in the mesh.

3) Defining and meshing the volume:

In order to define the volume, use the define option under the volumes module and then select the geometry manually.

- In the list option, assign property to the defined volume and then using the tetra FEM option re-mesh it.

- Commands like move free was used to clear the geometry surfaces of any kinks or dips.  Fix quality was also used to fi the errors generated.

Conclusion:

Geometry clean-up was performed along with 3D meshing on the given component. Meshing in accordance with the given element quality criteria was done. Volume was defined and meshing was done, any tetcolapse in the volume was fixed.
