MODEL 1:
PROCEDURE
STEP 1: OFFSET MID SURFACE
Commands used:
TOPO Module: Orient, Topo, Offset, Middle .,etc.
- Orient the cad model and check all faces are connected, if not try Topo to connect.
- Measure the thickness of the cad model.
- Select both sides of the faces and use middle option in TOPO module it will create faces exactly in-between the two faces. This option is also used to create middle surface for variable thickness.
- For uniform thickness:
- For multiple thickness:
- After completing all the faces similarly, Orient the mid surfaces and check the geometry one more time.
- For geometry check - Check manager> Geometry> Execute.
STEP 2: GEOMETRIC CLEANUP
Commands Used:
TOPO Module: Orient, Topo, Offset, Delete, Cut, New, Dach, Project, New face.,etc.
- After creating the middle surface check geometry by check manager option and clear all the errors one by one.
- Before Geometry cleanup:
- After Geometry cleanup:
STEP 3: ASSIGN PID & THICKNESS
- Assign the PID for all the individual parts with name and mention the thickness.
STEP 4: MESH WITH QUALITY CRITERIA
Commands Used:
MESH Module: Macros (cut, join, set PID)
Hot points (insert, delete, project)
Mesh generation (Spot mesh, Erase)
Shell mesh (Smooth, Reconstruct)
Element (join, split, new, freeze/unfreeze)
- Before meshing create a temporary macro by using zone cut option in hole perimeters and the edges (Single coons).
- Specify the quality criteria that needed and mesh all the areas.
- Remove the tria in hole perimeters and edges by using the option trias attached on boundaries, trias attached on edges and trias on corners.
- Check manager > mesh > trias on corners > Execute
Before mesh alignment:
After mesh alignment:
- Create a good mesh by reconstruct and smooth option.
- Mesh one by one and create a good mesh flow.
- Freeze the mesh where ever its necessary while reconstruct.
- After completion of meshing remove the temporary macro near hole perimeters.
- Check the percentage of quad, tria and off mesh in the graphical window and finalize the model before delivery.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
- Good understanding about ANSA GUI.
- How to make geometrical cleanup in Topo module.
- How to create mid surface.
- How to check quality of geometry by check geometry.
- How to assign quality criteria in mesh parameters and presentation parameters.
- How to assign PID and giving thickness.
- How to create and edit 2d mesh.
- How to check quality criteria of meshing by check manager.
- How to mesh the FE model with good mesh flow.
Model 2 :
- Importing the Component2 stp.file to the Ansa toolbar.
Geometry Checks:
- The geometry checks are used to check the geometry setup file using checkbox by selecting the geometry option
- And it shows that various errors in the geometry on the surface.
- After that we need to surfacing cleaning is done .
Surface Cleaning:
- Surface Cleaning is the process of clean up the surface error.
- An error such as holes, Extra surface, single cones, Crack.
- Single cones are used to clean up using the Select the all with Topology method.
- Some of the tools used to fix the problem are coons -surface patch, Fill holes, New for the Faces, Fixing Cracking.
- After selecting the particular area on that surface are missing like that using the tools to patch the area with select after that clicking the middle mouse bottom.
- In the surface cleaning methods, Ansa tools itself giving the Autofix for the some of the Error takes place in the model.
- Further open edges and single cons are in the geometry are corrected using the topo options.
Midsurface:
- Midsurface is the process of Extracting the skin of the component according to the thickness of the Component.
- This component having the same thickness in geometry .
- We need to measure all critically area and taking Midsurface according to the Offset and Middle,
- Using the Curve middle for projection the midsurface in the geomentry.
- In the topo mode, extracting the mid surface by Faces option in that Offset we need to select.
- After selecting the offset we need to select the surface its shows the direction of the arrow.
- If upwards indicates means we need to give value in negative it's vice versa
- A red color line indicates the mid surface take in the component.
- After Extracting the mid surface we need to assign the PID region with thickness.
- Each and every part of the component is taking the mid surface as per the thickness.
- For the outer wall and inner wall offsetting as per a thickness
- For every fines and inner thread are offsetting with the help of Faces Middle and Offset.
- In the Topo mode itself, we will be clearing all the Geometry cleanup.
Offset:
Full Midsurface:
Property Id:
Property id is the process in which after the mid surface has taken we need to assign the Property to the surface with thickness.
Meshing:
- FE meshes are better representations of their geometric parents. Also, it is easy to maintain and update any changes in the geometry by simply reworking the updated area instead of recreating the FE from scratch.
- Switching to the Mesh mode and we need to give the shell element size length according to the given input =4mm.
- For getting the smooth mesh we need to segregate the surface to various cut regions.
- Before Meshing we need to clean up the Some Geometry error also then only the flow of mesh should be smooth.
- While Meshing we need to maintain the quality criteria then only we will get the required output.
- We need to set up the mesh Parameters as will as presentation parameters according to given inputs.
- In the Mesh parameters, we are giving the target length with minimum and maximum length.
- In the presentation parameters, we need to enable Elements (%) and details on the Demand effect should be all details.
- In the Mesh Generation, we need to give the Free or Best mesh as per the Mesh flow.
Mesh Parameters:
Quality Criteria:
Presentation Parameters:
Error:
After cleaned Meshing :
- Using Join, Cut command at mesh mode to clear the quality error.
- To control trias percentage we need to use the split options to clear the trias.
Conclusion:
The giving Method1 & Method 2 setup is pre-processed successfully, with assembled all parts that satisfy all quality criteria and thickness to be assigned with the property of the component.
