Project

STATIC ANALYSIS ON THE DIFFERENT BEAM AND COMPARE THE STRESS, STRAIN, AND DEFORMATION.

AIM -

TO PERFORM STATIC ANALYSIS ON THE DIFFERENT BEAM AND COMPARE THE STRESS, STRAIN, AND DEFORMATION.

INTODUCTION -

The three different beams are different in cross section -

1 - Rectangular beam

2 - I section beam

3 - C channel beam

The sketches were extruded to a length of 400mm

A load was applied of 1500N on the smaller face(i.e. 45mm face for case 1, 40mm face for case 2 and 45 mm face for case 3)

DESCRIPTION OF ANALYSIS -

MATERIAL - Alloy Steel

MODEL TYPE - Linear Elastic Isotropic

DEFAULT FAILURE CRITERION - Max. von mises stress

YIELD STRENGTH - 6.20e+08 N/m2

TENSILE STRENGTH - 7.23e+08 N/m2

ELASTIC MODULUS - 2.1e+11 N/m2

POISSION RATIO - 0.28

MAXIMUM DENSITY - 7700 Kg/m3

SHEAR MODULUS - 7.9e+10 N/m2

CASE 1 - THE RECTANGULAR SECTION BEAM.

DIMENSIONS -

Length - 400mm

breath - 45mm

depth - 80mm

Analysis type - Static

Mesh type - Solid

Solver type - FFEPlus

So, in above figure -

The first diagram is of static stress were we see the maximum stress is 1.303e+06(n/m2) and the minimum stress is 1.197e+02(n/m2).

The second diagram is of static strain were we see the maximum strain is 4.037e-004(mm) and the minimum strain is 7.966e-01(mm).

The third diagram is of static deformation were we see the maximum deformation is 1.542e-004(mm) and the minimum deformation is 1.00e-30(mm).

The fourth diagram is sample model of the rectangular beam.

CASE 2 - THE I SECTION BEAM.

DIMENSIONS -

The above I cross section was extruded to 400mm long and made same as shown in above figure.

Analysis type - Static

Mesh type - Solid

Solver type - FFEPlus

So, in above figure -

The first diagram is of static stress were we see the maximum stress is 5.462e+006(n/m2) and the minimum stress is 9.195e-02(n/m2).

The second diagram is of static strain were we see the maximum strain is 1.486e-004(mm) and the minimum strain is 4.768e-01(mm).

The third diagram is of static deformation were we see the maximum deformation is 3.203e-004(mm) and the minimum deformation is 1.00e-035(mm).

The fourth diagram is sample model of the I cross sectional beam.

CASE 3 - THE C CHANNEL SECTION BEAM.

DIMENSIONS -

The above C cross section was extruded to 400mm long and made same as shown in above figure.

Analysis type - Static

Mesh type - Solid

Solver type - FFEPlus

So, in above figure -

The first diagram is of static stress were we see the maximum stress is 3.592e+006(n/m2) and the minimum stress is 6.272e-004(n/m2).

The second diagram is of static strain were we see the maximum strain is 1.122e-004(mm) and the minimum strain is 4.139e-01(mm).

The third diagram is of static deformation were we see the maximum deformation is 1.488e-004(mm) and the minimum deformation is 1.00e-030(mm).

The fourth diagram is sample model of the C channel sectional beam.

COMPARSION -

MODEL STRESS(N/m2) STRAIN(mm) DEFORMATION(mm)
Rectangular section 1.303e+06 4.037e-004 1.542e-004
I cross section 5.462e+006 1.486e-004 3.203e-004
C channel section 3.592e+006 1.122e-004 1.488e-004

If we look at above table we can conclude that for the rectangular section beam the stress , strain and deformation are less as compared to other cases. Case 3 i.e., C channel section has more stress , strain , deformation then all others. For the I section all the values are optimum and are best for the static analysis purpose.
