Sketch a G+1 residential plan according to Vaastu Shastra and Calculation of Loads as per IS code
CHALLENGE-10
Aim:
To draw the G+1 floor residential house according to Vaastu Shastra and calculation of the corresponding loads of the structure.
About Vaastu shastra:
The concepts of the ancient Vaastu Shastra include design, layout, measurements, preparation of the ground, spatial hierarchy, and geometry. They strive to create an organic whole that is in tune with the environment. In order to incorporate building and structure with the natural world, geometric patterns, symmetry, and directional alignments are utilized. Up until the tenth century AD, a large number of Vaastu Shastras on architectural design were in use in ancient India. They discussed topics including the layout, building, and design of temples (so that they become an integral part of the community) as well as design principles for homes, villages, and towns. There may have also been chapters on home building, town planning, and how to combine gardens and water features for a harmonious environment.
It is necessary to compute the total load acting on the structure since numerous types of loads can induce stress, displacement, and deformation. Examples of these loads include the structure's dead load, live load, wind load, seismic load, and snow load. When a structure is more than 10 meters tall, the wind load is taken into account. The constant loads that are applied to a structure over its lifetime are known as deadload. Live loads are real-time loads that are also known as imposed loads or unexpected loads. These stationary loads, which are mostly caused by the structure's own weight, occur in real time. The structure that receives the precipitation takes into account the snow load.
In the building section some of the basic recommendations are there for the all the rooms as per these Vaastu shastra, i.e.,
Entrance at North-East direction,
Living room should be at North west direction,
Bedroom should be at South-west direction,
Pooja room should be at East direction,
Kitchen should be at South-east direction.
Important structural drawing for the project:

- First floor beam layout with reinforcement details
- First floor slab layout with reinforcement details
- Lift pit and headroom reinforcement details
Calculation for the building plan:
Assumed dimension of structural members:
column = 350mm*350mm
Beam = 200mm*400mm
Thickness of slab = 150mm
Wall weight = 3m = 3000mm
Thickness of interior wall = 230mm
DEAD LOAD CALCULATION:
Unit of RCC = 25KN/m^3
Unit weight of brickwork = 20KN/m^3
Dead load of column = 0.35*0.35*3*25 = 9.2KN
Total columns on the building are 28(including ground and first floor)
Total dead load of the column = 28*9.2 = 257.6 kN
Dead load of beam = 0.2*0.4*25*1= 2KN/m
Dead load of slab = 0.15*25*1*1 = 3.75KN/m^2
Dead load of wall = 0.23*3*20*1 = 13.8KN/m
LIVE LOAD:
As per IS 875 Part ii….
Kitchen = 2KN/m^2
Living room = 2KN/m^2
Toilet and bathroom = 2KN/m^2
Staircase = 3KN/m^2
Store room = 3KN/m^2
Balconies = 3KN/m^2
Bedroom = 2KN/m^2
Wind load shall be considered for buildings exceeding 10meter height. Here the building height is 7m & hence no wind load shall be considered.
