Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section modulus -

The section modulus is a measure of a beam's or body parts ability to resist bending stress. A beam with a higher section modulus will be able to withstand greater bending stress without failling. And as the section modulus is simply defined as S=I/Y.

It is the ratio of area moment of inertia about the neutral axis and to the distance of outermost fiber from the neutral axis.

S = I/y

Where,

S = Section Modulus

I = Moment of Inertia

y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object.

calculating section modulus -

Case 1 -

Here Moment of inertia (I) = 2.85*10^5 mm^4

And Y = 876.457 mm

So S = I/Y

=2.85*10^5/876.457

S = 325.342 mm^3

Case 2 -

Here Moment of inertia (I) = 2.89*10^5 mm^4

And Y = 876.457 mm

So S = I/Y

=2.89*10^5/876.457

S = 329.908 mm^3

This is how i improved my hood design for safety concept.
