Section Modulus calculation and optimization
REPORT
Section Modulus - is a geometric property for a given cross section used in design of beams or flexible member. Section modulus represents the strength in material that means section modulus is directly proprational to strength while it is inversely proporational to distance that means a distance increases from neutral axis strength of material will also decrease.
to calculate the section modules below is the formula
using the formula S= I/y
where S = section modulus
I = moment of inertia
y = distance between neutral axis and the extreme end of object
Section Modulus Study -

measurement which is seen in the above pic from this picture we are going to take the value for y.
for calculating the value of y we need to divide it by 2 therefore
y = 483.34/2
y = 241.67 mm
value of y will be same for all cases which will be calculated further in this report.
In first section modulus, section is taken in its original surfaces

in above picture we are going to take minimum value of moment of inertia i.e 8.366e5 mm.
for the first case let's apply the formula
S = 8.366e5/241.67
S = 3.46e3 mme3
this value is calculated when no material is added or remove from object.
In second section modulus, material is added to object (i.e thickness increase)

in above picture we are going to take minimum value of moment of inertia i.e 9.377e5 mm.
for the second case let's apply the formula
S = 9.377e5/241.67
S = 3.88e3 mme3
In third section modulus, material is removed from object (i.e thickness decrease)

in above picture we are going to take minimum value of moment of inertia i.e 7.583e5 mm.
for the third case let's apply the formula
S = 7.583e5/241.67
S = 3.13e3 mme3
