Challenge

Section Modulus calculation and optimization

Section Modulus:

S = I/y

Where,

S = Section Modulus

I = Moment of Inertia

y = distance between the neutral axis and the extreme end of the object

Answer:

Model 1:

total length of model: 488.60mm

Y= 244.30mm

(Minimum) I= 4.98*10^3mm

(maximum)I= 8.215*10^3mm

S= 20

For the model 2 the cross sectional area of the model being increased by 2mm by leaving the length un changed and the value of section modulus is being calculated.

Model 2:

total length of model: 488.60mm

Y= 244.30

(Minimum) I= 5.27*10^3mm

(maximum)I= 8.215*10^3mm

S= 21

from the result it is clear that by increasing the cross sectional area of the model we can increase the section modulus of the model. the images are attached with this result
