Project 2 - Gender Bias in Science and Technical field
Tableau dashboard focuses on gender bias in science and technical fields, aiming to empower mission-driven organizations to leverage data visualization for social change. The dashboard addresses significant gaps between men and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, shedding light on the challenges faced by women throughout their education and professional careers.
The dashboard begins with a pie graph illustrating the representation of women in various STEM fields, including Biological Scientists, Chemists & Materials Scientists, Computer & Mathematical Occupations, and Engineers & Architects. This visual representation provides a quick overview of the gender distribution within these specific occupations.
Next, the dashboard presents a trend analysis showcasing the percentage of women graduating in Computer Science and Engineering from 2000 to 2015. The accompanying text emphasizes the changing landscape and highlights the progress made or challenges faced during this period. The dashboard further explores the percentage of women graduating from STEM majors, specifically in Computer Science and Engineering, by the year 2015.
By leveraging data visualization, this project sheds light on the possible issues contributing to the gender gap in STEM jobs. It highlights factors such as limited representation and career opportunities for women in science and mathematics throughout their education, leading to restricted training and options for entering these fields as adults. The dashboard encourages a broader dialogue on the need for equal opportunities and the importance of addressing gender bias to promote inclusivity in STEM fields.
