Alumni Career Analysis - SQl for Data Science
Alumni Career Analysis Project Summary
This project analyzed career trajectories of alumni from two universities (College A and College B) based on their graduation year and completed courses. The analysis categorized alumni into three career paths: Higher Studies, Self-Employment, and Service/Job.
Key Accomplishments:
- Created a dedicated MySQL schema called "alumni" to organize all project data
- Successfully imported six CSV files containing alumni records:
- College A: Higher Studies, Self-Employment, and Service/Job records
- College B: Higher Studies, Self-Employment, and Service/Job records
- Performed comprehensive data cleaning on all six tables:
- Removed null values
- Created clean views (College_A_HS_V, College_A_SE_V, etc.)
- Standardized name formats (converted Name, FatherName, MotherName to lowercase)
- Developed MySQL procedures:
- Created string conversion procedures for consistent data formatting
- Implemented cursor-based procedures (get_name_collegeA, get_name_collegeB) to retrieve all student names
- Data visualization and analysis:
- Displayed and analyzed initial data using Python in Jupyter Notebook
- Created pivot charts in MS Excel showing geographical distribution of alumni
- Calculated percentage distributions of career choices for both colleges
- Quantified career path distributions showing how alumni from each college gravitated toward different professional directions (Higher Studies, Self-Employment, Service/Job)
The project provides valuable insights into alumni career preferences that can inform institutional planning, networking strategies, and contribute positively to the institute's ranking metrics.
