Aim : Design pile foundation of a RCC slab bridge having dimensions “15” m span and “5” m height at abutment and width = 12 meters. Also Design the pile cap and its reinforcement

1)Calculate the loads to be applied on the abutment as per IRC 6
2) Live load analysis and effective width calculation for 70 r and class A to be done to calculate the reactions on the abutment.

3) Make Load combinations as per IRC 6 for ULS,SLS rare and quasi.
4) Do checks for ULS,SLS rare and quasi and present a hand calculation.
5) Also calculate the anchorage length of the bars and minimise the bars wherever you can.
6) Draw rebars to the scale and therefore calculate the kg/cumec of the pile and pile cap.

Introduction : The given bridge is a RCC slab bridge of 15m span,1m thickness to be assumed. It is a supported by a substructure of abutment type of height 5m and pile below it. Capacity of pile as per given data is vertical capacity as 300 tonnes and horizontal capacity as 40 tonnes per pile. M35 concrete and Fe500 steel. Scour at abutment 4 meters. Soil density=20 kn/m3 k=0.33 (active). All other parameters to be assumed.

Procedure :

Since it is 15m span, for abutment half of superstructure loads will be considered for design of substructure.

Cells marked in yellow are given data other all data are assumed. Wind load is not governing for abutment & seismic loads are out of scope for this document, hence not calculated.
