Project 2

To determine the countries in dire need of aid based on socio-economic and health factors, we can use Principal Component Analysis (PCA), K-Means Clustering, and Hierarchical Clustering. These techniques will help us classify countries based on their overall development and identify those requiring the most attention. Here's an outline of the approach:

  1. Data Preparation:

    • Gather data on socio-economic and health factors for various countries.
    • Select relevant features that represent the overall development of a country.
    • Ensure the data is cleaned, normalized, and ready for analysis.
  2. Principal Component Analysis (PCA):

    • Apply PCA to reduce the dimensionality of the dataset while retaining the most important information.
    • Determine the optimal number of principal components based on explained variance ratio.
    • Transform the data into the reduced dimensional space.
  3. K-Means Clustering:

    • Apply K-Means Clustering algorithm to group countries based on their feature similarity.
    • Determine the optimal number of clusters using techniques like the Elbow Method or Silhouette Score.
    • Assign each country to a cluster based on the clustering results.
  4. Hierarchical Clustering:

    • Apply Hierarchical Clustering algorithm to create a hierarchy of clusters based on feature similarity.
    • Use appropriate linkage methods (e.g., Ward's linkage, complete linkage, etc.) and distance metrics (e.g., Euclidean distance, cosine similarity, etc.).
    • Generate a dendrogram to visualize the clustering results and decide the number of clusters.
  5. Interpretation and Recommendation:

    • Analyze the results from both clustering techniques.
    • Identify clusters or groups of countries that exhibit similar development characteristics.
    • Assess the socio-economic and health factors contributing to the classification of countries.
    • Recommend focusing aid on countries belonging to clusters with the greatest need for support.

Implementing these steps requires the availability of relevant data on socio-economic and health factors for various countries. Additionally, it is essential to fine-tune the parameters and interpret the results carefully to make informed recommendations.

Note: Due to the dynamic nature of real-world situations, it's crucial to regularly update and validate the analysis using the latest data to ensure the aid efforts align with the changing needs of countries.
