Challenge

Project 1 - English Dictionary App & Library Book Management System

1A: English Dictionary App

1.Create a file called "words.txt" in our directory to store the dictionary of words & their meanings.

2.Use the pickle module to serialize the dictionary & store it in 'words.txt' file.

3.Define a function called display_menu() to print our Main menu.

4.Define a function called add_word() that prompts the user for a new word and its meaning, adds it to the dictionary, and then serializes and saves the updated dictionary to "words.txt"

5.Define a function called find_meaning() that prompts the user for a word, seeraches for it and returns the meaning if it is found. If word is not found, then displays an appropriate message.

6.Define a function called update_word() that prompts the user for a word, updates its meaning and saves the updated dictionary to "words.txt".

7.Implement the main menu using a loop that diaplays the menu options, prompts the user for their choice, and then calls the appropriate function based on user's choice.

1B: Library Book Management System

  1. Set up the environment: Install Python and Tkinter on your computer. You'll also need to install the SQLite library using pip.

  2. Create the database: Use SQLite to create a database for storing the book information. Define a table with columns for title, author, year of publication, and ISBN.

  3. Design the GUI: Use Tkinter to design the user interface. Create a main window and add text widgets for entering book information and a text area or list box for displaying the book records.

  4. Implement CRUD operations: Write functions to handle the create, read, update, and delete operations. For example, the create function should insert a new book record into the database with the information entered in the text widgets.

  5. Implement search functionality: Write a function to search the database for books based on title, author, year, or ISBN. Display the matching records in the text area or list box.

  6. Connect the GUI to the database: Use SQLite to connect the GUI to the database. This will involve writing functions to execute SQL queries and retrieve data from the database.

  7. Test the application: Run the application and test all the functions to make sure they work correctly.

  8. Optional: Add additional features: You could add features like sorting the book records by title or author, or allowing the user to edit existing records.
