Project 1 - English Dictionary App & Library Book Management System
The project is described involves the creation of an English Dictionary app and a Library Book Management System. Here's a summary of the project and its components:
1A: English Dictionary App
Objective: Create an English Dictionary app that provides definitions of English words.
Features:
Main Menu with options to:
Add a new word (word and its meaning are stored in 'words.txt').
Find the meaning of a word (searches 'words.txt' and returns the meaning).
Update a word (update the meaning of an existing word).
Exit the application.
Data Storage: The words and their meanings are stored as a dictionary in 'words.txt' using the concept of serialization.
1B: Library Book Management System
Objective: Implement a Library Book Management System with a GUI frontend using Tkinter and a backend database using SQLite.
Features:
Single-window Tkinter GUI application.
CRUD operations (Create, Read, Update, Delete) on a 'books' database in SQLite.
Text widgets to accept/display book title, author, year of publication, and ISBN.
A large text area/list box to display records that match search criteria.
Conclusion:
These projects are designed to reinforce the Python programming skills learned from week 1 to week 6. By completing these projects, we gain practical experience in building applications, working with files, databases (SQLite), and creating graphical user interfaces (Tkinter). Additionally, the English Dictionary app demonstrates file handling and serialization concepts, while the Library Book Management System showcases both frontend and backend development. These projects are valuable additions to a programmer's portfolio, helping me . knowledge and become proficient in Python programming.
