Project 1 - COVID-19 Vaccinations Trend Analysis

Global Covid-19 Vaccination Analysis Using Power BI

Aim

To analyze worldwide COVID-19 vaccination data and generate insights on vaccination coverage, trends, and performance by country using Power BI.

Introduction

The COVID-19 pandemic led to a global health crisis, prompting countries to initiate large-scale vaccination programs. Monitoring vaccination progress is crucial for understanding pandemic control measures. This project analyzes a comprehensive dataset of global COVID-19 vaccinations to track performance, identify disparities, and support data-driven decisions.

Problem Statement

Despite global vaccination efforts, there is significant variability in vaccine distribution, coverage, and uptake. Understanding which countries lead or lag, and how daily vaccination rates compare, is essential for equitable global health planning.

Methodology

1. Data Cleaning:

  • Dataset checked for null values, formatting errors, and consistent data types.
  • Date fields standardized for time series analysis.

2. Power BI Report:

  • Dashboards created with KPIs such as:
  • Total Vaccinations
  • Daily Vaccinations
  • People Fully Vaccinated
  • Vaccinations Per Hundred
  • Country-level comparisons
  • Time-series trend lines
  • Top/Bottom performing countries

3. Visuals Used

  • Bar charts, line graphs, maps, KPIs, and filters for date and country.

Analysis

The dataset contains:

  • 30,847 records
  • Data for 169 countries
  • Key columns:
  • total_vaccinations`
  • people_vaccinated`
  • people_fully_vaccinated`
  • daily_vaccinations`
  • vaccinations_per_hundred`

Key Findings from Raw Data:

  • Highest total vaccinations: Over 3.2 billion in one country.
  • Some countries administered vaccines to over 120% of their population (due to second/booster doses).
  • Daily vaccination peaks above 18 million.
  • Several countries reported zero or very low vaccination rates consistently.

Insights

  • Top Vaccinating Nations:** Countries like the US, China, and India lead in total doses.
  • High Efficiency:** Some smaller nations show high per capita vaccination despite smaller total numbers.
  • Vaccine Diversity:** Countries used multiple vaccines—Oxford/AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson.
  • Disparities Exist:** Large gaps between fully vaccinated and partially vaccinated people in several regions.
  • Trend Over Time:** Major spikes align with global waves and new variant surges.

Recommendations

  • Encourage lagging countries to speed up full vaccinations.
  • Promote public awareness campaigns to reduce vaccine hesitancy.
  • Provide additional resources to regions with low daily vaccination rates.
  • Regularly update and cross-reference data with WHO and regional reports.

Conclusion

The Power BI-driven analysis of global COVID-19 vaccination data offers valuable insights into vaccination trends, disparities, and efficiencies. Through this case study, stakeholders can identify success patterns and areas for improvement, thereby supporting informed decisions in public health policy and pandemic management.
