Project 1_Comparative study of different storey buildings for Seismic forces

1) Grade of concrete - M30

Grade of steel - Fe415

Model A :

Model B:

Model C :

Model D :

Model E :

Model F :

Model G :

Model H :

Model J:

Model K :

Effect of stiffness on T for buildings E & F as well as G & H :

Model name Fundamental natural period (seconds)
E(10 storey with different column sizes) 1.57
F(10 storey with same column sizes) 1.575
G(25 storey with different column sizes) 3.995
H(25 storey with same column sizes) 4.229

In model E & F, model F time period is increased very minimal. In model G & H , H is having higher time period than G. It is due to the different column sizes and same column sizes used in the model. Since time period is directly propertional to the mass, it varies accordingly to the column sizes.

Effect of mass on T for buildings H, J & K :

Model name Fundamental natural period(seconds)
H 4.229
J 4.238
K 4.247

Model J and K is having minimal increase in time period when compared with the model H. J and K are more flexible than K.

Effect of building height on T :

Model name Fundamental natural period(seconds)
A 0.5
B 0.858
F 1.57
H 4.229

Building H is having more time period when compared with the remaining buildings because building is highest among A,B & F. Time period increases with increase in height of the building.

Effect of column orientation on T :

Model name Fundamental natural period(seconds)
B 0.858
C 0.95
D 0.93

C model building is having more time period than B & D . Column orientation plays a major role here.

Effect of flexural stiffness of structural elements on mode shapes :

Model B :

Time period after modifying the building B:

Time period = 4.634 seconds

Structure becomes more flexible so the time period is higher in this case.

Effect of Axial stiffness on vertical members :

Model H:

Time period = 12.347 seconds

There is a huge difference in time period due to vertical stiffness on vertical members.

Effect of degree of fixity on column bases :

Model B :

Time period = 0.763 seconds

In fixed support end condition time period is reduced.

Conclusion :

Thus the comparative study is done for different structural systems with different structural configurations and different structural parameters.
