Challenge

Problem set 2 -week 3 challenge : Anti-Characteristics

1) For the first question I calculate the deflection at front and rear spring by calculating the wheel rate and the load transfer. By using these values I calculated simply the deflection. After I determined the deflections, I summed these values and diveded by the wheelbase to determine the pitch angle. With the pitch angle I also calculated the pitch gradient simply.

2) So I put some pictures to the excel sheet where you can see formulas which I used in my calculations. For the front Anti-lift angle and for the rear Anti-squat angle I took the horizontal and vertical distance by considering the tyre radius from the IC to calculate these parameters ((e-r)/d*(180/pi)).

We learned from the lesson that if rate between the heigh of the CG and wheelbase is equal to the the ratio between the vertical distance and horziontal distance from the IC then we will have 100% Anti geometry ((h/L)= (e-r)/d). So I just used the heigh of the CG and the wheelbase to determine the front and rear swing arm angles under 100% Anti-geometry.

For the Anti-lift % and Anti-squat % I included the Driving ratio and as the driving ratio on the rear axle is 100% there will be no driving force at the front and hence there will be zero Anti-lift. By considering the Anti-squat angle and the heigh of the CG and the wheelbase, I simply calculated the Anti-squat percentage.

3) For the Anti-lift % and Anti-squat % for zero pitch angle, I just equalized the front and rear displacement and determine the current swing arm lenght to calculate these parameters. The Anti-lift will stay at zero because there is no Driving Ratio value at front but for the Anti-squat the value will much much higer then before in zero pitch angle.

To find the deflection at the front and and at the rear and I took into account the new Anti-squat % value. While the front deflection will still be the same because no change of the Anti-lift , the rear end deflection will have a new value.

Now to varify that the pitch angle is zero I just summed the front deflection and rear deflection and this value was zero.
