Photo Realistic Rendering

Report on Assembly of American Chopper Model:

Objective:

The objective of the project is to model an American Chopper using a CAD software SolidWorks and to render with SolidWorks Visualize to create photo realistic view of it.

Introduction:

This project explains the designing of American Chopper using SolidWorks Sketch and modelling the parts and lastly give the photo realistic view.

Steps:

Part Modelling

Assembly

Rendering

PART MODELLING:

2D sketch of the part is sketched in the SolidWorks and it is converted into 3D part using heads up feature tab.

Used Feature:

Boss Extrude: To expand the object in 3D modelling this is used.

Fillet: To make internal and external edges and to avoid the sharp corners.

Chamfer: To make internal and external edges and to avoid the sharp corner to get smoother surface finish and tapered face.

Extrude Cut: It is used to cut or remove the 3D object in linear path according to the sketch.

Lofted Boss: It is used for complex geometry by interpolating between cross sections of a model.

Split: Split tool is used to split single solid part into two solid parts. It is used to project an entity on other surfaces of curved or planer faces.

Shell: shell feature is used to make hollow space in solid part by selecting outer wall of the solid part and so removes the inner part. It is also used to reduce the specific thickness.

Dome: It is used to make dome shaped feature.

Combine: Combine tool is used to make integration of two solid parts which intersect each other as same solid part.

Linear Pattern: To create different number of instances in linear basis.

Curve Driven Pattern: It is used to make any pattern which followed by the curve is sketched before.

Circular Driven Pattern: It is used to make 3D feature into circular pattern according to number of instances.

Revolve boss base: It is used to make cylindrical or circular 3D extrude along with a given refence axis as per drawn sketch.

Revolve Cut: It is used to cut of cylindrical round surface.

Move or Copy: It is used to move or copy of the 3D body to one place to another.

Mirror: It is used to mirror a feature or body using by reference plane.

Sweep: This feature is used to make sweep any kind of fully sketch along with path.

Swept Cut: This is used to cut along with sweep path.

Projective Curve: Projection of curve is a 3D curve which is projected on the basis of the two different 2D curve in different plane.

Block: For any drawing views, we can make individual sketch and edit label position, and insert blocks , then attach the block in proper position of the model.

Trim: It is used to trim unwanted surfaces or lines in the sketch.

Knit Surface: It is used to knit the surfaces in the free edges or open edges of the surfaces together.

Loft Surface: It is used to make loft in between two profiles along with guide path.

Boundary Surface: It is used to make a surface in between two finished surface.

Appearances: It is define the visual properties which are defined by materials by colour and texture.

Assembly:

It is referred to put the all components together in an assembly line. It is to create a complete product that performs an intended function. In assembly section we do mate feature and rebuild the document which is automatically reflected in the assembly.

The vast majority of the designed assemblies consist of two modelling strategies, bottom-up technique and top down technique.

Standard mates include angle, coincident, concentric, distance, lock, parallel, perpendicular and tangent mates. Advance mates include limit, linear, path, width mates.

RENDERING:

It is image synthesis is the automatic process of generating a photorealistic or non photorealistic image from 2D or 3D model using a computer program.

Appearance

The rear wheel is much thicker than front wheel. It is also designed to be a multi body part consisting of a rotor, sprocket, rim, tire and the caliper all in a single part. Then revolve, extruded cut and circular pattern is used.

Chain:

Feature Used:

Trim entities

Fillet

Appearances

It consist of 390 bodies including separate bodies for all the inner plates and the whole pins. Using curve circular pattern which allows each instances of chain parts to follow the curve drawn initially for the chain. It has to rotate along the curve and around the sprocket which is not possible if it is merged to make a single body.

Oil Tank:

Appearance

Extrude and Shell part are the major feature used in this part.

Pedal:

Feature Used:

Assembled American chopper:

Assembly is referred to keeping the all components together. It creates complete product. The each components are changed and reflected in the chopper assembly. After doing the assembly rebuild the document properly.

This is assembled using all the above mentioned features. Using all mates like

Conclusion:

This is the American chopper which is designed and assembled using SOLIDWORKS 2016 and rendered to realistic images using PHOTOVIEW 360.

Note: In my solidworks, visualisation is not there. So I used Photoview 360.
