performance to tension and torsion test using explicit dymanics and observing the non linear behaviour of results carries out stress deformation and temperature generation

Objectives of this challenge:-

THere are two objective in this challenge are as follows:-

1. We have to perform a tension test in ansy workbench using Explicit dynamic, By using a Explicit material of Steel 1006 From engineering data source And carry out the results of deformation , stress, and temperature generation during stretching of a given specimen (Here the specimen other end is stretched by 18 mm while the one end is fixed).

2. Also by using the basic configuration settings form tension test (by certain modification ) We have to set up a torsion simulation, by roratating the the end of rod by 1200 degree, Also we have to carried out stress and temperature results for the same.

Set -up and preprocessing done for both the case are as follows :-

In the explicit module first the material was feed into the local library from engineering data source, (steel 1006) And then the model is browsed in the geometry pannel. THe the geometry was edited in the spaceclaim so that it would take the extension format for space-claim, Then the mechanical module was open for setting up of boundary conditions and constraint application.

The material was assigned to the model.

then two extra co-ordinate sysytem was created by selecting faces of rod at the ends region.

Meshing was created in the format such that . tetrahedral elements was set for whole body , the sizing is given for both the end faces only by setting up of sphere of influence (Sphere radius 22 mm ,mesh size 3mm).

After meshing of body .Analysis setting is given by.

here only we set a end time of 1e-3 second.

Then the boundary conditions are set as One end is fixed and while other end is stretched by 18 mm in x-direction.

In this way for tension simulation settings are done in the mechanical model. And results are carried out.

Results for tension test:-

DEFORMATION STRESS GENERATION STRAIN DEVELOPMENT TEMPERATURE GENERATION

18.002 MM 625.55 MPA 0.295 22 TO 258.88 (degree celcious)

\\

deformation graph

stress graph temperature graph

ENERGY SUMMARY .

All the results are displaced above in the summurised format, the deformation of other end is 18 mm is proved by the deformation graph,Also the temperature generation is 258.5 degree c ,and the why there is no error in the analysis because the energy graph is showingHourglassing is zero, you will neve see the red line in the graph anywhere.kinetic enegr ia having a slight variation but it is within limit and the contact energy is constant.

Set-up And pre-processing configuration for torsion test are as follows.

as the tension test is done similar configuration was duplicated in the same working window, here only change is the creation of cylindrical co-ordinate system and providing a angular displacement to the other end of body while one end is fixed.

NEw cylindrical co-ordinate system was created by selecting the middle face

and the meshing is refined further in this case.

Analysis setting is similar as above. end time =1e-3 sec.

boundary conditions was given by ; one end is fixed and other end is rotated by 1200 degree , by taking the referance as the newly created co-ordinate system.

After this setting the results are obtained as above cases:-

RESULTS:-

DEFORMATION STRESS GENERATION STRAIN DEVELOPMENT TEMPERATURE GENERATION

22.46 MM 581.7 MPA 1.955 22 TO 393.8 (degree celcious)

ALL THE RESULTS ARE DISPLAYED ABOVE IN THE WELL DEFINED MANNER,

BY OBSERVING THE ENERGY DISTRIBUTION SUMMARY IT IS CLEAR THAT THE SIMUALTION WENT THROURH IS WELL DEFINED MANNER, AS THERE IS NO HOURGLASSING,

INTERNAL ENERGY IS REACHING TO 4.68E 5 MJ , CONTACT ENERGY IS CONSTANT AND THERE IS VARIATION IN THE KINETIC ENERGY BUT THOSE ABNORMILITIES IS REDUCING AS WE SEE IT BY REFERENCING THE TIME INCREMENT.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONCLUSION

In this way i performed the tension test and torsion test simulation using explicit solver , and obtained the various results, Also saw the energy distribution and it\'s abnormal behaviour with the change in time increment .
