Perform Batch meshing on Hood component using Hypermesh
Objective- To perform Batch meshing with given criteria and assign the non-linear material property to the provided components.
Procedure-
Hood
- Import the given .stp file.
- Measure the distance using geom>distance
- Delete the solids
Why do we perform meshing?
The basic idea of finite element analysis is to make calculations at only limited number of points and then interpolate the results for the entire domain. Any continuous object has infinite degrees of freedom and it’s just not possible to solve this problem in this format. Finite Element Method reduces the degrees of freedom from infinite to finite with the help of discretization or meshing.
- Select the crash 5mm as the parameter and criteria file for batch meshing
- Perform batch meshing by 2d>automesh>batch mesh

What is Quality criteria?
These are the parameters or the ranges upto which the ideal geometry or mesh size can be compromised or altered.
- Provide the quality criteria as follows
- Clear the areas failing for quality criteria
Assign non linear material property
- Create the material card as steel
- Values under material card should be given as follows
- Create the property card for the components
- Value under property card should be given as follows
- Assign the material and property card to each of the component collector which are having batch mesh.
Fender
- Import the given .stp file.
- Measure the distance using geom>distance
- Delete the solids
- Select the crash 5mm as the parameter and criteria file
- Perform batch meshing by 2d>automesh>batch mesh
- Provide the quality criteria as follows
- Clear the areas failing for quality criteria
Assign non linear material property
- Create the material card as steel
- Values under material card should be given as follows
- Create the property card for the components
- Value under property card should be given as follows
- Assign the material and property card to each of the component collector which are having batch mesh.
Learning Outcome
- Learned to perform batch meshing.
- Learned to assign non liner material property.
Conclusion
- In this project the batch meshing was performed on hood and fender model and also assigned non-linear material property to them.
