Morph the model FEA using hypermorph

AIM : Morph the given side body component to the desired shape shown in the shared image for reference and write a Macro for the same procedure.

OBJECTIVE :

  • Import the geometry (or) model file provided to us for the challenege.
  • Remesh the mesh with better element size and extract the surface out from the mesh (FE).
  • Morph the mesh (FE) as suggested in the given reference image by using the Morph tool.
  • save the model and open the "command.tcl" file from you pc > documents.
  • edit the macro code lines if need and save it.
  • open hypermesh new session and then run the macro code file , which we edited and saved.

BRIEF INTRO : Morphing is a module used to modify the Mesh model (or) FE model to meet the new design changes without change of node id and the element id .

PROCEDURE :

  • first of all we have to import the model file provided to us for the morphing.
  • to import the model, we have to select import option > model.
  • select the model file which you want to open in hypermesh.
  • after importing the model, we have the mesh attached to the surface of body to extract out.
  • to extract the geometry out of the FE , we have to go to the option geometry > surface > from FE.
  • for the better arrangement of the mesh elements we remesh the mesh elements with element size of "5mm" before the suface extraction.
  • now after the remesh, we proceed for the surface extraction by using the tool "from FE".
  • In this we have to select the elements from which we have to extract the surface , there are also so many options in that available for better improved geometry surface out from FE, but here our work is only with the FE model , so we here take default setting for the geometry output.
  • in the below images you can see the following procedure we proceed.
  • after the extraction of the FE model , we hide the geometry and proceed for morphing.
  • for that we have to go to the option tool > HYPERMORPH > MORPH VOLUMES.
  • in this we have to select the elements which are have to come under the volume creating, handle placements and we select the handles under "global" system.
  • after that we divided the whole volume into small areas , which helps to user for easy to work on details while morphing.
  • to divide the total volume into small areas we use option tool > HYPERMORPH > MORPH VOLUMES > SPLIT / COMBINE.
  • In that we give horizontaly "8" and vertically "4" in "z" and "x" axis point of view.
  • we select the handles and try to modify the FE model as per the requirement by giving the handles translational and angular movements.
  • In the below images you can see the following procedure we followed.
  • after the morphing is done , save the model file.
  • go to the my com/ my pc > documents > command.tcl.
  • open the "command.tcl" file , which contains the macro code lines of the following procedures we followed in the hypermesh for the Morphing the FE model.
  • edit the code lines if needed , then save the file with different name.
  • open hypermesh "new session" and try to "run" the tcl file which we edited and saved.
  • if the file runs and give the same output as we got earlier then the "macro code" is correct.

RESULT :

As per the challenge given ,the morphing of the following FE model provided is done as per the requirement and also saved the macro code for the "morphing" process.

the model file and the tcl file is saved and shared through the link given below for the future reference and for further procedure .
