Meshing a Floor Panel Component
Objective:
To extract a proper midsurface using manual offset and also to mesh the given model respecting all the specified quality criteria as mentioned below.
Procedure:
Step 1. Open the given hypermesh .hm file, the geometry of the floor panel components are studied and again organized under a single component deleting all the unwanted features. And the component is not symmetrical and also thickness is found to be varying from 0.75 mm to 0.9 mm, but predominantly found to be in the range of 0.75 mm to 0.8 mm. So the thickness is considered as 0.78 mm.
Step 2. After deciding the thickness, the surface with minimal surface distortions is used to extract the midsurface by manual offset method, with an offset distance of 0.39 mm.
Step 3. The extracted midsurface is cleaned up before meshing, as the curved surface with 5mm or lesser diameter are removed and other non-essential and aesthetic features are also cleaned-up.
Step 4. Once the topology repair is performed, the surface is then again splitted into small definite geometrical fragments for effective meshing. The meshing operation is done using the specified mesh criteria and the element failing were repaired and ensuring zero element failure.
Step 5. The meshed element are then assigned with material properties and also appropriate thickness as considered earlier.
Result:
The midsurface is extracted and meshed, respecting the specified meshing requirement criteria and no element failure is ensured, also adhering to the best practices. The tria percentage of the meshed elements is 1.9%
