machining with planar

Objective: To run an explicit dynamics simulation on machining with a planar and find the equivalent stress, total deformation and user defined temperature of the body.

Drop the explicit dynamics system into project schematic window and select the material from the engineering data under explicit material . Material used for this simulation is steel 1006. The material property are shown below.

Import the geometry and check in space claim to ensure there is no error.

In the mechanical model cell, the part of the assembly was renamed for simplication and material was assigned to plate. Tool stiffness behaviour was set to rigid .All the default contact was deleted and body interaction was of frictionless type.

Meshing: Tool body was meshed with tetrahedron patch conforming method and the plate was meshed with edge sizing with 10 no. of division.

Analysis setting: this simulation will be done for 0.00075 sec with maximum energy error of 0.1

Boundary conditons: Tool body was given a velocity of 20000mm/sec in x axis for 1st case and 15000mm/sec in 2nd case. Rest of the component were constrained by setting \'0\'. Fixed support was set at the base of the plate.

Result:

Equivalent stress:

Case 1: Max Min (Mpa)

663.22 0

Case 2: Max Min (Mpa)

652.45 0

Total deformation:

case1: Max Min(mm)

34.102 0

case 2: Max Min(mm)

28.627 0

Temperature:

case 1: Max Min(degree celsius)

326.98 19.85

case 2: Max Min(degree celsius)

319.5 19.85

Conclusion: From the above result we can understand that, as the velocity of the tool increases the level of stress in the body increases thereby increasing the temperature of the plate .
