iPhone 5s BENDING USING ANSYS WORK BENCH

TITLE: IPHONE 5S BENDING USING ANSYS WORKBENCH

OBJECTIVE: To perform an bending analysis of iphone 5s.

CASE 1

1.GEOMETRY SETTING

  • At first materials are imported from the library.

Aluminium alloy for the frame

Glass for the Display

polyethylene for the interior body of the phone.

  • Now I look at the model in Design modular for any error.

  • Then I open the model in mechanical modular and assign the materails to the parts.
  • Then rename the parts and assign all the fingers on the display as rigid.
  • Then I look for pre defined contacts and make some corrections to them.

  • Then I define some joints.Fixed to the fingers and translational to pusing fingers.

  • Then I look for mesh and use face sizing to fine the mesh.

  • Now I define some boundary conditions like fixing the ends of inside parts so during the bending model doesnot translate to any direction.
  • Adding 0 mm displacement and fixing towrds x and z direction so it can move only towards z direction.

  • Now I difine joint displacemet of the pusing fingers and translate them towards Y direction.

  • Now I request for the results.

RESULTS:

DIRCTIONAL DEFORMATION= 8.0048 mm

EQUIVALENT STRESS = 612.16 MPa

EQUIVALENT ELASTIC STRAIM= 0.0090164 mm/mm

CASE 2

In this case I displace the finger to x=22.5mm and z=10mm and define S-N curve for Alluminium Alloy non linear material.

S-N curve for Alluninium Alloy

Now we can look over the new geometry.

  • Then all the kind of meshing,analysis as well as boundary condition settings are used same as above simulation.
  • Then I request for the results.

NOW WE CAN LOOK OVER THE ANIMATION FILE

RESULTS:

EQUIVALENT STRESS = 1710.6 MPa

DIRECTIONAL DEFORMATION = 8 mm

LIFE= 127.64

FOS= 0.001927

CONCLUSION: Both the models justify their results.No abnormalities can be seen.
