Hood design-Week 2

Hood
The hood or bonnet is the hinged cover over the engine of car. Hoods can open to allow access to the engine.and the hood contains oter panel, inner panel, striker, hinge, reinforcements, mastic seals, support rods, gas stay spring, and grommets for resting the support rods if needed.
And hood causes the main impact if any incidents or accidents while created. so it wanted reduces the force travelling in that way the inner panel has reduces the force by differnt structures made in that part
Hood outer panel
It is the outer surface and class A structure of the hood. and it gives the asthetic look of the hood in a car so it does not have any defects ,welds, and other feautures
Hood inner panel
It is the inner surface of the hood and it copy or drawn from a class A structure. it contains all the B side feautures and the inner panel not like a plain surface. it has many structures and stamping opertions of drawing, embossing, forming to improve the strength and avoid the collision happen
Hinge
Hinge is the part to help the swinging motion of the hood and it connects the car and the hood
striker
It is the part to lock the hood in the car it held on the inner panel, it has the main mechanism of lock and it releases the intial opening of the hood
support rods
in hood opening time it stay in a standing condition by a use of support rods
gas stay spring
gas spring is to open the hood by automatic are stay in automatic
Reinforcements
it is the thickness material of backup parts or packings of the drawing or embossings to equals the depth condition and managing the strenth and the thickness depends upon the bench marking
Hood design and manufacturing
- Hood is the sheet metal part
- manufactured by stamping operations
- Embossing is one of the stamping opeartion .it press the sheet metal in to desired shape by one side projection and another side impression is called embossing
- sheet metal embossing or drawing operations always have 7 to 10 degree draft to easy release of punch and sheet metal from the die
- hemming is the main operation in hood to assemble or join the inner and outer panel.
- hemming is the operation by folding the end of sheet metal to lock a another part
- In the hood hemming, outer panel is fold over the inner panel by maintaining a gap distance
- Hemming is the stamping operation but in hood condition it made by the roller operations
- The distance gap maintained by the outer and inner panel is packed by mastic sealings
- mastic sealing is the hard rubber part
- Hinge is assembled in a flat surface emboss of the inner panel by certain degree and striker is assembled in a way of perpendicular to the hinge axis it is called the latch trajectory method
