Wheel Arc Distance Calculation

Aim

To measeure the wheel arch distance at required points and check whether the car passes the Europian standards.

Thoery

Wheel arch-

It is a curved part of the fender positioned right above the wheel. The wheel Arch is designed such that it protects both the pedestrian and car cabin from mud, water rocks and other road spray. Different countries have different wheel arch regulations in place, and the wheel arch design has to comply with them to be deemed usable in that country.

Europian Regulations

• The important parameter which is considered in the designing of wheel arch or wheel is the clearance between wheel and fender during the vehicle bump conditions.
• Requirements have been proposed by vehicle and road safety community to the minimum requirement of wheel arc distance from the wheel for safety.

Things to follow-
1. Measure of CL L is done on sections SA, SB , SC, SD, SE.
2. At all sections the value of CL L should be greater that 10mm.
3. Wheel guard requirement -: The value of a shall be more that 5mm at 30 Deg forward and 50 Deg rearward from the central axis of wheel.

The distance is 43.62mm it passed the requirement distance

Result

Checked the Wheel arc deistance of the given Fender and evaluated the with the Europian regulations and found that the given part passed the requirement of 10 mm.
